- 1. BLACKWELL & BOWNESS - ON- WINDERMERE

Blackwell, situated 11/2 miles from Bowness-on-Windermere, is regarded as one of the most important examples of Arts and Crafts architecture. It was built between 1898 and 1900 as a holiday home for Sir Edward Holt, a wealthy Manchester brewer. Since restoration in 2001 the house has been furnished with original items of furniture and artifacts from the period.
We will visit Blackwell in the afternoon after free time in Bowness for lunch and shopping. A guided tour of Blackwell has been arranged. Our coffee stop enroute will be at Moffat and after the visit to Blackwell there will be more free time in Bowness for tea etc. before we return to Glasgow.
- 2. THREAVE HOUSE & GARDEN
Thursday 16 June 2005; Depart 9:00am; Return 6:30pm (approximately); Cost £17.
While the garden at Threave is familiar to many of our members, this will be the first time we have made a visit to view the principal rooms of Threave House which were opened to the public several years ago. The interiors have been restored by the N.T.S. to replicate what they would have looked like in the 1930's. Lunch and tea will be available at the Threave Visitor Centre. Our morning coffee stop will be at Moffat.
- 3. BOWHILL & MELROSE
Saturday 19 July 2005; Depart 8:45am; Return 6:30pm (approximately); Cost £21.
After leaving Glasgow we will travel to Bowhill, near Selkirk, with a coffee stop at Dobbies Garden Centre at Dalkieth. Bowhill is the Scottish Borders home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensbury K.T. It is at the centre of an extensive estate much as Sir Walter Scott saw it in the "Lay of the Last Minstrel". It has an outstanding art collection, superb French furniture and Sevres and Meissen china. Afternoon tea will be at Melrose.
- 4. DALMENY HOUSE
Tuesday 9 August 2005; Depart 10:45am; Return 6:00pm (approximately); Cost £21.
We will travel directly to the Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh where members can obtain lunch at their cafeteria. In the afternoon we will visit Dalmeny House. Dalmeny House has been the home of the Earls of Roseberry for over 300 years. It has superb collections of porcelain, tapestries and fine paintings by Gainsborough, Reynolds and Raeburn, together with the Mentmore Rothschild collection of 18th century French furniture. Afterwards the coach will take members to Charlotte Square in Edinburgh where members can make their own arrangements for tea etc.
- 5. ST ANDREWS & FALKLAND PALACE
Saturday 8 October 2005; Depart 9:00am; Return 6:30pm (approximately); Cost £17.
We will travel to St Andrews where there will be free time for lunch etc. En route we will have a coffee stop.
In the afternoon we visit The Royal Palace of Falkland which was the country residence of Stuart kings and queens and has associations with Mary Queen of Scots. There will be free time to explore the attractive and characterful town of Falkland and have tea/coffee before we return home.
- SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT
Friday 8 April 2005; Depart 10:45am; Return 5:00pm (approximately); Cost £15.
We will arrive at the Scottish Parliament in time for lunch. There is a restaurant in the Parliament building and also at Holyrood Palace. A guided tour has been arranged and there will be time for tea before leaving. At the time of our visit there is an exhibition of the Queen Mother's collection of watercolours in the Queen's Gallery. If you wish to come please apply as soon as possible.
- TOWN VISIT - DOULTON FOUNTAIN & PEOPLE'S PALACE
Thursday 2 June 2005; Meet at High Court, Saltmarket at 2:00pm; Cost £2
The recently restored Doulton Fountain in Glasgow Green came into being for the 1888 Glasgow Exhibition in Kelvingrove Park. It is a vast Victorian extravaganza of carved terracotta, and at the time it was built it was believed to be the largest terracotta structure in existence.
We will meet at the High Court in Saltmarket, opposite the entrance to Glasgow Green and walk through the Green to the Fountain. We will then continue to the People's Palace for tea. If you wish transport back to the city centre, we will call black cabs which can be shared by four people.
- FOUR DAY TOURING HOLIDAY TO ABERDEENSHIRE
Friday 9th to Monday 12th September 2005; Cost (Including insurance and driver's gratuity) £250 (sharing a twin room) or £275 (single).
The price included admission charges to non-NTS properties, insurance and driver's gratuity.
We will stay for three nights, on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at the Thistle Altens Hotel which is situated on the southern outskirts of Aberdeen. It is described as a "luxury modern 216 bedroom hotel". It has a health and leisure centre with a swimming pool. All bedrooms are ensuite and equipped with the usual facilities.
Visits are planned to Fasque (near Fettercairn), Crathes castle, Drum castle, Duff House, Pitmedden Garden and House of Bruar. Again this year we have been fortunate in obtaining a large number of single rooms. As demand for these frequently exceeds our allocation some members may wish to consider sharing. All applications will be dealt with in order of receipt of the booking form which should be accompanied by a deposit of £45 per person.
